Schools / colleges

Learner facilities are one of the larger areas where people gather, and should be subjected to hygiene and risk audits to ensure conditions are healthy and acceptable.

A case against the Education Department was won by a former teacher because he reported that the class he had to use had a wet concrete floor. No corrective action was taken, and he won a R1m+ asthma claim in court.

This example shows that management should never underestimate the importance of an external auditor, as another pair of eyes on the same subject usually brings value to the table.
